Article 21: Kitchen Layouts and Designs

After a long hard day at Work do you want to go home and go to “Work” again? What you need is a kitchen that is FUN to play in. Designed for conversation and family activities. Relax and enjoy the rest of your evening. With family surrounding you and enjoying each other’s conversation.

When you first start thinking about getting a new kitchen step # 1 is to decide what you want in your kitchen for appliances and special wants? Will you be using a stove or will your choice be a cook top with oven or ovens in a wall unit. Will you have a microwave, grill, dishwasher, one sink or two sinks, or maybe a pantry, the list is important so you can get your working triangle?

A working triangle is the distance between the range, refrigerator and the sink. It should measure between 15’ and 25’ feet. Any distance less than that it is too tight and more

than that, you will find that you are spending all your day walking! Moving your microwave away from the range or adding a second sink can create a second working triangle. This will alleviate congestion when you have more that one cook.

Once you know what is going in your kitchen the 2nd step is to look at design. What style of cabinet doors do you like? Flat panel, Raised panel, dressy or plain. Are you looking for an airy or cozy kitchen?

Finally, are you drawn to details that you just love about certain kitchens as you browse through your magazines? Even one small detail can add a look you like. It also gives your custom cabinet designer an idea of what you are looking for. So tear out your pages and make a collage or keep them safe in a folder to use at the time of your consultation. A concerned cabinet designer will want to visit your home to get a feel for the architectural vintage of your home. He or She will want to ensure the design will compliment your surroundings and the traffic flow of your home.

These are a few tips for you to consider when looking for your dream kitchen. You want a lay out and design built just for you and your family. Be the star of your kitchen; make it functional and fun to work in. The Kitchen will be the place where everyone wants to be, because this is where all the love, fun and interaction happen.
